GRIT 6 is a project based class. After finishing a class weaving project this spring, a few students decided to continue the crocheting for good. Four students, Kinley, Lucy, Summer, and Paige, created crocheted homemade squishies for students to end the school year and reduce stress. They sold them at lunchtime for a $1 or any donation with all proceeds going to the Marion Fire Department. Fire Chief, David Turner, picked up their donation today.

Friday was our first Popsicles on the Playground event. Parents joined students at their monthly SOAR assembly. After, students traveled around the playground with their parents to various activities promoting physical activity. Parents received summer packets for students to help prevent that "summer slide" as well as a refreshing popsicles, of course!

Cannon, Erica, and Sierra attend the 10th Annual West Michigan Armed Forces Thanksgiving in Grand Rapids MI.
The day began walking through a display of first responder and military vehicles/equipment. After watching a helicopter land, they explored the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. After about an hour and a half, all students from participating schools assembled and marched through the streets of Grand Rapids led by local bagpipers. Once at the event center, they experienced a formal military ceremony, catered lunch, table meet and greet with local veterans/business leaders, and a presentation by guest speaker Lt Col Dan Rooney (F16 Pilot in the Oklahoma Air National Guard and founder of Folds of Honor). The day ended with a call to action: Students were charged with coming back to their schools/community and creating a service project to honor the local veterans of Marion.
The day was an extraordinary experience for these Marion students. In addition, their participation contributed to the over $500,000 this event has raised for West Michigan veterans over the past decade!
